The essays in the first part of
this book were originally published in the Nihon Ki-in (Japan Go
Association) magazine “Igo Club” in 1975 and 1976. They were so popular
that they were reprinted in book form in January 1977 and since then
have been reprinted a further six times. These essays launched Nakayama
Noriyuki on what has proved to be a very prolific career as a go writer.
He has made a reputation as one of the very few professionals who
actually write the material which appears under their names (as opposed
to the usual practice of a professional providing illustrative diagrams
which are then fleshed out with commentary by a ghost writer).
