Isle in April of 1942, the son of Richard and Elayne Graves. After
attending Training and Cunningham Schools he graduated in Presque Isle
High School’s Class of 1960. In 1967 he received his Bachelor of Science
from Ricker College in Houlton. While attending Ricker College, he met
his future wife,
Angie and in August of 1969 they were married at her parents’ cottage in
New Hampshire. In the fall of 1968 Dick entered the College of Optometry
in Boston. Four years later he received his Doctorate of Optometry and
in the summer of 1972 he returned to his hometown to engage in private
practice. He continues that practice to this day (2007). Dick and his
wife Angie have three grown children: Ricky, Michael, and Christopher.
Angie is engaged in the antique business and has been for more than
twenty-five years. Sons Ricky and Christopher reside in Presque Isle
while son Michael lives in Bar Harbor. Both Dick and Angie are members
of the Presque Isle Historical Society and have been for many years.
Dick is a founding father of the Presque Isle Air Museum established in

previous book on Presque Isle: “Forgotten Times: Presque Isles First 150
Years” was published in 2006 and he continues to write local history
articles for his column, “Forgotten Times” in Presque Isle’s local
newspaper, the Star-Herald, and has done so since 2002.
